Salisbury, MA to Boothbay, ME to Bar Harbor, ME

Made it to Maine!  First stop was in Boothbay, with a quick afternoon visit to Boothbay Harbor, a popular yachting and tourist destination.  The next three nights were near Bar Harbor, Maine which is situated just outside Acadia National Park.

Boothbay Harbor, ME
Boothbay Harbor, ME – Built in 1901, this footbridge spans 1000’ across the inner harbor, connecting the two sides of town.
Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, ME – Known as the first place in the US to see the sunrise (at least for part of the year), you need a reservation to drive up to the highest point in Acadia National Park.
Precipice Trail, Acadia National Park, ME – If your hiking as been lacking a good upper body work out, you may like the Precipice trail. You’ll climb over 1000’ in the first .9 miles…and I do mean CLIMB! (Notice the road and parking lot near the top of the photo…and we’re only halfway up!)
Precipice Trail, Acadia National Park, ME – The ledge walks on the Precipice trail offer amazing views of the eastern portion of the park and coast line.

Champlain Mt. Summit, Acadia National Park, ME – Made it!
Orange and Black Trail, Acadia National Park, ME – We were a bit early for the fall colors in coastal Maine, but there were a few trees that did their best to give us a show. Here we’re on a loop back trail from the Precipice hike.
Jesup Path, Acadia National Park, Maine – A stroll along the boardwalk through white birch.
Great Meadow, Acadia National Park, Maine
Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park, Maine – Following the path around the shores of Jordan Pond.
South Bubble, Acadia National Park, Maine – the view atop the South Bubble. We combined the Jordan Pond path trail with a climb up South Bubble for a 4.6 mile hike.
Thunder Hole, Acadia National Park, Maine – When the right size waves roll into this inlet, a thunderous sound emanates from the cavern just below the water surface.  The lower walkway was closed for obvious reasons!
