Nrogongoro Crater


The Ngorongoro Crater floor is 100 square miles and 2,000 ft deep.
Because of the variety of animals present, the Ngorongoro Crater is a well-known tourist attraction.
Wildebeest have a distinctive robust muzzle and their large horns.
There is a common misconception that hyenas are primarily scavengers, but in fact the majority of the time they hunt and kill their own food.
The lion population count has stabilized in recent years, to the delight of tourists.
Black rhinos are incredibly wary of humans and their vehicles.  The rhinos stayed well away from the safari trucks and never came closer.
We had lunch at the Ngoitokitok Spring, with hippos watching our every move.
Another major water area in the crater is the Lake Magadi.  Here thousands of greater flamingoes like to eat the water algae.
What side does a zebra have the most stripes on?  The outside!
The secretarybird tends to walk and hunt for prey on foot.  With their long legs and big feet, they specialize in stomping their prey until it is killed.
The Lions Paw Lodge is located on the rim of the Crater, with one of the most picturesque views you can imagine from the Bar and Restaurant deck.
