Our 2017 spring break trip started with some, let’s say…challenges!
Our original Friday night flight was cancelled after a 2 hour delay. We had a plane and a pilot, but no flight crew. This was all part of Delta’s epic meltdown which began with some severe weather the previous Wednesday in Atlanta (our layover on the way to Bonaire). By the weekend, Delta was still struggling to normalize their flight schedule…and like many others, we were left without a flight crew that never made it to Seattle via one of thousands of cancelled flights.
After only a few moments of stunned disbelief, Jules and Katie attacked the internet for alternatives. Delta, maintaining it’s exceptionally incompetent customer service experience, offered no alternatives. Within 30 minutes we had booked an American Airlines flight to Curacao (via Miami) for the following day, with a short hop to Bonaire on Monday morning. Fun fact: the flight from Curacao to Bonaire was operated by Insel Air…the US government has banned all official travel on Insel due to it’s history of losing cabin pressure and numerous emergency landings. Thank you Delta!
We made it to Curacao without incident and enjoyed some afternoon beach time and a sunset BBQ for dinner.
Although we lost a day of diving, Curacao ended up being a very nice layover…we look forward to a longer visit some day.
