Today we started with a trip to the Norwegian National Gallery
King Charles IV…may have been the inspiration for Shrek’s Puss-n-boots!
One of the 2 painted versions of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” (1893)
Okay, now it gets a little weird…the Vigeland Installation, a series of 212 brass and granite sculptures covering 80 acres in Frogner Park. Gustav Vigeland created the sculptures from the 1920’s until his death in 1943…the site is the most visited tourist site in all of Norway (1 to 2 million visitors annually!). And just when I thought this guy was incapable of chiseling clothing…I learn that Vigeland was the designer of the Nobel Peace Prize medal. Go figure!
We wrapped up the day with a walk past the Royal Palace, built in the early 19th century, the palace is the official residence of the current Norwegian monarch, King Harald V.
Tomorrow we make our way to Stockholm…
