Last Day in Bergen

With a fairly light agenda, we wrapped up our Bergen visit with a few small museums and a gondola ride to the highest of Bergen’s seven mountains.

The Hanseatic Museum is a restored work space/living area for the members of a Germanic merchants guild who controlled trade in large parts of Europe for several centuries.  In Bergen they mainly traded for dried fish and fish oil, in exchange for grain and textiles.    They operated in a closed society, under their own laws and customs…often at odds with the local governments.

We also visited the Bergen Fisheries Museum.  A nice collection of exhibits spanning from the coastal/marine environments through the evolution of Norway’s most vital industry.
