Nanaimo

We’d been planning for a few months to boat up to Nanaimo in June, to put the boat through its paces, and to do some diving.

The weather cooperated so we took off on Friday morning.

We had been warned about Dodd Narrows.  How incredibly tight… how quickly logs run through it… watch for commercial traffic.  We timed our journey up to Nanaimo to hit it at slack.  Listening to the radio, boats were announcing their intentions to pass through. Between the GPS, AIS and the fact that you can see through to the other side of the narrows, it all ended up being a huge non-event.  We slipped through behind a north bound trawler and there was nothing to it!

We had all the dive gear stowed for sea, so our first task at arrival was to assemble our gear.

How the f#$@ does this go back together again?
Yay! We didn’t forget anything.
Wolf eels seem incapable of keeping their massive heads up right
Pretty egg yolk jellies. Stinger strings are 10 ft long or so – gotta watch for them in the water
Peekaboo
Warbonnets are great camera subjects because they just sit there and wonder what the big eye is doing
Opalescent Nudibranch
Fish hold also serves as a great rinse tank.  Just make sure that the fish smell has been removed first.
